About Me

Dr. Bryan Choi is a GTA-based Clinical and Counselling Psychologist. For over 15 years, Dr. Choi has worked in healthcare, post-secondary and organizational settings helping individuals and organizations improve their mental and emotional health and wellness. Driven by his commitment to provide person-centered mental health care and his core value that “emotion matters,” he established EmotionMatters Psychology as a centre for supporting compassion, healing and growth for individuals. He also oversees Workplace Peer Support Programs in Ontario Public Service and teaches psychotherapy and counselling courses at York University.
Approach to Therapy
From an early age, Dr. Choi learned how helpful it was to open up to a safe person and feel emotions to heal them. He gravitated to Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) as a therapy approach for helping others given its strong alignment with his personal experiences and values. EFT is an evidence-based therapy approach for treating a range of issues like depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental health issues. EFT is grounded in the belief that feeling our emotions connects us to our fundamental experience and core needs to help us heal, change and grow in ways that are adaptive for us. EFT can help us improve our general emotional intelligence, compassion, empathy, self-confidence and connection to others.
Dr. Choi is certified as an EFT Supervisor and Therapist by Dr. Leslie Greenberg, the creator of EFT, and the International Society for Emotion-Focused Therapy (isEFT). He completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology at York University. He has co-facilitated EFT trainings, co-authored a chapter in the Clinical Handbook for Emotion-Focused Therapy and has published research and presented at international conferences on EFT.
