Alissar Al Azzawi

I am a licensed psychotherapist by the College of Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario. I have an educational background in education, human development, special needs, and counseling psychology. I worked with children, teens, adults, families, and couples from different socio-economic statuses and backgrounds. I specialize in cognitive behavior therapy, mindfulness, religion-based therapy(Islam), solution-based therapy, psychoanalysis, and exposure therapy. I worked with refugees with post-trauma, depression, and anxiety. I also worked with youth and teenagers with mood disorders, suicidal thoughts, prolonged grief, self-esteem, identity issues, and self-destructive behavior. I worked with couples and families with divorce and relationship problems, as well as sexual issues. I helped parents understand their children and deal with their substance abuse, disability, identity crisis, and risky behavior. I helped couples find common ground, improve communication and conflict resolution, and understand the history and pattern of behavior. I helped my clients examine negative thoughts and challenge their accuracy to improve their emotions and use better coping skills. I also helped my clients address destructive thoughts and behavior with emotional regulation and mindfulness techniques. My clients gained practical skills to navigate life challenges and to use internal strengths and resources to restore self-esteem, manage symptoms, and improve holistic well-being.
